New Title: Treatment Considerations for Clients with Rare Disorders
Certain rare conditions, specifically including EDS, SLE, ALS, and MS, are quite different in cause but share certain physical symptoms in common. This course will look at each disorder and their physical effects, and present techniques and their respective outcomes.
Lecture: Overview of varying and similar effects on the body in relation to a massage therapist’s hands-on practice when treating clients who have been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Presentation will include overview of physical symptoms and how the neurological and muscular systems of the body are affected as well as precautions and contraindications when working with these populations.
Demonstration and Trade: Techniques, and adjustments to techniques, to safely address physical effects, and comfort needs, relative to these disorders.
